the woodlot

my mom, mary hirt has officially joined the woodlot team : )   this picture is from the christmas One of a Kind show in Toronto. we really couldn’t have done it without her!  it’s an 11 day MARATHON really. the kids are pretty little still ( 4 & 6) so it takes a lot of juggling to make such a long – “out of town” show happen.

mom’s always been crafty –…

so we’ve been working on a couple new things for the fall, we’re excited to share!

the first are grape vine wreaths. i made a whack of these simply because i had a load of grapevine and didn’t want to waste it! at the cabin there was a section of bush right next to the building where this MASSIVE grape vine had taken over about 3 full grown trees. it was totally covering them and…

so, i have to apologize, the woodlot has taken a bit of a backseat the first half of this year, we’ve had lots on the go and i’m geeked about getting back into woodworking (took the kids to the Welbeck Sawmill Woodshow today, i drooled a bit over a portable sawmill).

the most exciting thing this year is that we took a pretty big scary jump ( though i’m sure BMO…

ah. today was my garage day, i like working out there. despite the noise, it’s pretty quiet and peaceful – a nice counter to the chaos and hectic pace with preschoolers.  a day out there restores my balance : )

so. i’ve started REALLY working on buttons. zillions of buttons! right now on the bench i have a whack of HUGE ones – they’re over 3 inches, made from spalted maple .  they’re really…
